PostHog adds Convex to integration roster
PostHog has launched an integration with Convex, connecting its open-source analytics platform with Convex's full-stack backend. The integration allows teams using Convex for their application backend to pipe event data, user behavior, and product metrics directly into PostHog's analytics suite.
The move expands PostHog's integration coverage into the real-time backend space. Convex, which provides a TypeScript-first backend with built-in database, functions, and real-time sync, has gained traction among developers building AI agents and collaborative tools. By linking the two platforms, teams can instrument their Convex apps with PostHog's feature flags, session replay, and experimentation tools without building custom analytics pipelines.
How the integration works
Developers can now capture events from Convex functions and actions, sending them to PostHog for analysis. This means product teams can track backend operations (API calls, database queries, background jobs) alongside frontend user interactions in a unified view.
The integration supports:
- Event capture from Convex mutations and queries
- User identification synced between Convex's authentication layer and PostHog's identity system
- Custom properties attached to events, pulling in metadata from Convex's database
- Feature flag evaluation within Convex server functions, enabling backend A/B tests
PostHog's announcement emphasizes developer experience. Teams already using Convex can add a few lines of code to start sending analytics events, without needing middleware or separate event buses. For apps with complex backend logic (multi-step workflows, scheduled tasks, or agent orchestration), this provides visibility into where users drop off or where performance bottlenecks emerge.

Context: PostHog's integration strategy
PostHog has steadily expanded its integration footprint over the past year. The platform recently launched a waitlist for PostHog Code, an AI assistant that generates analytics queries and dashboards, and teased an AI agent designed to automatically fix production issues by analyzing event streams. The Convex integration fits this pattern: giving developers more hooks to pull analytics into their existing workflows rather than forcing them to adopt separate tools.
The Convex partnership also aligns with PostHog's focus on real-time data. Convex's reactive queries update automatically when underlying data changes, and PostHog can now capture those updates as discrete events. This matters for apps where user actions trigger cascading backend effects (think collaborative editors, live dashboards, or multi-agent systems).
For Convex users, the integration offers a faster path to product analytics than building custom instrumentation. Convex's developer community skews toward early-stage startups and side projects, where teams need quick insights without dedicated data engineering. PostHog's self-hosted option (or cloud tier with generous free limits) makes it a natural fit for that audience.
The integration is live now. PostHog has published setup guides in its documentation, and Convex has added PostHog to its integrations directory. Teams can start syncing events today by installing PostHog's Node SDK in their Convex projects and configuring event forwarding from backend functions.
