Netlify Kicks Off Hot App Summer With 30 Apps in 30 Days Challenge

Netlify has launched Hot App Summer, a month-long campaign to build and deploy 30 web applications in 30 days. The platform's VP of Engineering, Dana Lawson, kicked off the challenge by shipping VerseBars, an app that converts random Bible verses into rap performances with browser-generated beats, all built on the same day it was requested.

The initiative showcases Netlify's deployment speed and positions the platform as a go-to choice for rapid prototyping and production-ready apps. Each day throughout June, Netlify will release a new application, demonstrating different use cases and capabilities of its infrastructure.

Day One: VerseBars Ships in Hours

VerseBars, the inaugural Hot App Summer project, was requested by a friend who teaches Sunday school. The app selects a Bible verse at random, transforms it into rap lyrics, and generates a beat that plays live in the browser. Lawson announced the build on LinkedIn, noting it went from request to deployment within a single day.

The app demonstrates real-time audio generation and client-side processing, two capabilities that have become increasingly common in modern web applications. By handling beat generation directly in the browser, VerseBars eliminates server-side audio processing, reducing infrastructure costs and latency.

Context: Netlify's Recent Product Push

Hot App Summer arrives as Netlify accelerates its product roadmap. The company recently made its Database offering generally available, targeting AI-native development workflows. As previously covered, Netlify also shipped same-day support for Angular v22, demonstrating the platform's commitment to framework compatibility.

Netlify has also expanded its AI capabilities. The platform now supports Claude Opus 4.8 in its AI Gateway and Agent Runners, and recently demonstrated a prompt-to-deploy workflow entirely within the Claude Desktop chat interface.

The 30-day app sprint fits into this broader strategy of proving Netlify's infrastructure can handle diverse workloads, from simple static sites to complex AI-powered applications. By building apps publicly and rapidly, Netlify is positioning itself against competitors like Vercel and Railway in the race to become the default deployment platform for modern web projects.

What's Next

Netlify has not disclosed the full lineup of apps planned for the remaining 29 days, but the campaign's structure suggests a mix of practical tools and experimental projects. The company is inviting developers to try each day's release, potentially gathering feedback and usage data to inform future product decisions.

Developers can follow along at the Hot App Summer landing page, though Netlify has not announced whether source code for the apps will be publicly available. The campaign runs through the end of June, with a new app launching daily.
