Gatheround Parent Donut Unveils AI Onboarding Agent for HR Teams

Donut, the parent company of Gatheround, has launched an AI Onboarding Agent designed to automate the end-to-end employee onboarding process within Slack. The tool aims to eliminate the manual coordination work that typically consumes hours of HR time each week, from IT provisioning to manager check-ins.

According to a LinkedIn post from the company, the agent allows HR teams to upload existing onboarding documentation, define goals, and receive a complete Slack-based workflow ready to deploy in minutes. The system handles recurring coordination tasks automatically, including IT setup reminders, manager nudges, and new hire check-ins.

From Manual Coordination to Automated Workflows

Traditional onboarding programs require HR teams to manually track multiple moving parts across different systems. IT needs to provision accounts, managers need reminders to schedule one-on-ones, and new hires need timely check-ins to ensure they're settling in. Donut's AI agent consolidates these touchpoints into a single automated workflow that runs inside Slack, where many distributed teams already coordinate daily work.

The agent processes uploaded onboarding documents, company policies, and role-specific materials to generate contextual workflows. Rather than templated sequences, the AI adapts the onboarding path based on the documentation provided and the goals HR teams specify during setup.

Slack-Native Delivery and Enterprise Focus

By delivering onboarding workflows directly in Slack, Donut reduces the friction of asking new hires to learn yet another platform during their first weeks. Messages, tasks, and check-ins appear in channels or direct messages where employees are already working. This approach aligns with Donut's existing integration strategy, as seen in previous launches that brought AI-generated intro messages to Gatheround sessions via Donut profiles.

The emphasis on speed (setup in minutes rather than hours or days) and scale suggests Donut is targeting mid-market and enterprise HR teams managing high volumes of new hires. Organizations that onboard dozens or hundreds of employees each quarter stand to save significant coordination overhead if the agent performs as advertised.

Donut acquired Gatheround in December 2024, combining the latter's virtual meeting facilitation platform with Donut's workplace connection tools. The AI Onboarding Agent represents Donut's first major product announcement since the acquisition, signaling a focus on AI-powered automation for distributed teams.

The company has not disclosed pricing details for the AI Onboarding Agent or whether it will be available as a standalone product or bundled with existing Donut subscriptions. Interested teams can learn more on the Donut website.
