Framer Launches AEO Scanner to Help Websites Prepare for AI-Driven Search

Framer released an Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) Scanner that evaluates how well AI systems can read and surface website content. The free tool, announced on LinkedIn, lets users paste a URL to see what AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini can and cannot extract from their site.

The scanner addresses a shift in how people find information online. According to Framer's announcement page, over 60% of searches now end without a click, meaning users get answers directly from AI instead of visiting websites. If an AI model cannot parse or cite your content, your site effectively disappears from that discovery path.

What the Scanner Does

Users enter a URL and receive a report highlighting structural and metadata issues that limit AI comprehension. The tool scans for clear metadata, structured content, and what Framer calls "trust signals" that AI models prioritize when choosing which sources to cite.

Framer describes the results as guidance rather than a definitive audit. The assessment uses AI to analyze one URL at a time and follows Framer's own methodology, which may differ from other AEO evaluations. The company positions the scanner as a starting point for site owners who want to understand whether their content is discoverable in an AI-first search environment.

Why AEO Matters Now

Answer Engine Optimization refers to making content easy for AI to find, understand, and quote. Traditional SEO focused on ranking in search results; AEO focuses on being selected as a source when an AI generates an answer.

Framer argues that most websites lack the basic structural signals AI needs. Common issues include missing or poorly formatted metadata, unstructured content blocks, and a lack of authoritative markers that language models use to assess credibility. The scanner aims to surface these gaps quickly so site owners can prioritize fixes.

The timing aligns with broader industry changes. As AI-powered search interfaces proliferate, the value of appearing in a traditional link list declines. Being cited inline in an AI-generated response, or appearing in a conversational answer, becomes the new visibility target.

Who This Is For

The scanner targets site owners, marketers, and designers who want to future-proof their content for AI consumption. Framer notes that a few targeted fixes can shift a site from invisible to frequently cited, especially since most sites remain unprepared for AI-driven discovery.

For Framer users, the tool complements recent platform updates focused on technical performance and content management. The company introduced dynamic filters for CMS content and opened a server API beta for automated publishing, both of which support structured, machine-readable content that AEO favors.

The AEO Scanner is available now at framer.com/aeo. Users provide a first name, last name, and business email to receive results.
