Dribbble Launches Outbound Proposals to Let Service Providers Bypass Platform Fees

Dribbble announced a new feature that allows service providers to bring their existing clients onto the platform without incurring platform fees, while still benefiting from the company's payment infrastructure and workflow tools.

The design community platform introduced Outbound Proposals in early April, following what CEO Zack Onisko described as a record-setting first quarter. The company reported a 300% year-over-year increase in design and development service purchases, with advertising spend by agencies doubling and Pro subscriptions climbing 75%.

How Outbound Proposals Work

Outbound Proposals enable service providers to create and send project proposals to clients they've already connected with outside Dribbble. Unlike traditional platform transactions, neither the client nor the provider pays platform fees on these deals, provided the client doesn't already have a Dribbble account.

The feature gives providers access to Dribbble's existing contract system, secure payment processing, and workflow management tools. Service providers can manage both their off-platform clients and Dribbble-sourced projects from a single dashboard, with hands-on support from Dribbble's team when needed.

The fee waiver applies not just to the initial transaction, but to all subsequent projects between the same client and provider. This represents a significant departure from typical marketplace economics, where platforms typically collect a percentage of each transaction.

Reputation Benefits Drive Platform Engagement

Dribbble built a strategic incentive into the feature: every Outbound Proposal that converts contributes to a service provider's reputation score on the platform. Higher reputation scores translate to better placement in search results and recommendation algorithms, which the company says will increase inbound lead flow for participating providers.

This creates a virtuous cycle where providers bring their existing client relationships onto Dribbble, build credibility through completed projects, and gain visibility to new potential clients browsing the platform.

The move comes as Dribbble continues expanding its service marketplace beyond its origins as a portfolio platform for designers. The company recently launched expert verification for Framer designers, creating curated pools of specialists for specific tools and platforms.

Outbound Proposals addresses a common friction point for freelancers and agencies who maintain relationships across multiple platforms. Rather than choosing between platform-provided infrastructure and fee-free direct relationships, service providers can now access Dribbble's tools without the traditional cost trade-off.

The feature is available now to all Dribbble service providers. Details on implementation and eligibility requirements are available in the company's official announcement.
