Bubble has shipped global expressions, a new feature that lets builders define a formula once and automatically propagate it across every page, element, and workflow that depends on it. The update, announced on LinkedIn, targets teams managing complex apps where keeping logic consistent has historically required manual updates in multiple places.
The feature addresses a common pain point in no-code development: as apps grow, maintaining synchronized logic across dozens of components becomes brittle. A pricing calculation might live in five different workflows, or a user permission check might be duplicated across ten pages. When business rules change, builders face a tedious hunt-and-update process, and missed instances create bugs.
How Global Expressions Work
Global expressions function as centralized formulas that can be referenced anywhere in a Bubble app. When a builder updates the expression's definition, every instance that calls it updates automatically. This mirrors the behavior of functions or constants in traditional code, but within Bubble's visual development environment.
The feature is particularly useful for:
- Pricing logic that appears in checkout flows, dashboards, and admin panels
- Access control rules that determine what users can see or edit
- Date calculations used across scheduling, reporting, and notifications
- Status conditions that trigger UI changes or workflow branches
By centralizing these formulas, builders reduce duplication and eliminate the risk of logic drift, where different parts of an app implement slightly different versions of what should be the same rule.
Why This Matters for Growing Apps
The feature arrives as Bubble continues to position itself for teams building production-grade software. Following their recent mobile quickstart and ongoing AI integration work, global expressions add another layer of maintainability for apps that scale beyond initial prototypes.
For solo founders, the benefit is straightforward: less time hunting down every instance of a formula means more time shipping features. For agencies and teams, it reduces onboarding friction. New collaborators can reference a global expression library rather than reverse-engineering logic scattered across the app.
The timing also aligns with Bubble's broader push to close the gap between no-code and traditional development practices. Version control, team collaboration features, and now global expressions all borrow concepts from software engineering to make visual development more robust at scale.
Global expressions are live now for all Bubble users. The feature does not require a plan upgrade and works across existing apps without migration. Builders can create new global expressions from the editor and immediately start referencing them in workflows, conditional logic, and dynamic data sources.
