Beehiiv Launches Full Podcast Hosting to Compete With Spotify and Apple

Beehiiv Expands Beyond Email With Native Podcast Hosting

Beehiiv rolled out full podcast hosting capabilities on its platform, announced on LinkedIn earlier this week. The move puts the newsletter platform in direct competition with dedicated podcast hosts like Spotify for Creators and Apple Podcasts, bundling audio distribution with its existing email and web publishing tools.

The new Podcasts feature handles the complete podcasting workflow: creators upload audio files once, and Beehiiv distributes them to major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. Every episode automatically generates a searchable transcript, and the platform provides real-time analytics compliant with IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) standards, the industry benchmark for podcast measurement.

What sets Beehiiv's approach apart is its revenue model. Unlike Substack, which takes a percentage of creator earnings, Beehiiv claims creators keep 100% of their podcast revenue. The platform supports private podcast feeds, letting creators gate episodes behind paid subscriptions, a monetization strategy that has gained traction among premium newsletter publishers.

Technical Integration and Creator Workflow

The publish-once distribution system mirrors workflows already common in podcast management tools, but Beehiiv's integration with its newsletter infrastructure is the differentiator. Creators can cross-promote podcast episodes in email campaigns, embed audio players directly in web posts, and segment audiences based on listening behavior alongside email engagement metrics.

Automatic transcription addresses one of podcasting's biggest accessibility and SEO challenges. Transcripts make content searchable, improve discoverability, and comply with accessibility standards, tasks that typically require third-party services or manual effort. Beehiiv's bundled approach eliminates that friction.

The IAB-compliant analytics give creators standardized metrics that advertisers and sponsors recognize, including unique listeners, download counts, and consumption rates. This matters for creators looking to attract podcast advertising, which has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry but requires credible measurement.

A Broader Push Into Multi-Format Publishing

Beehiiv has been steadily expanding beyond its newsletter roots. The company recently added MCP integration and enhanced automation tools, positioning itself as a full-stack content platform rather than just an email service.

The podcast launch follows a pattern seen across creator economy platforms: bundling multiple content formats under one roof to reduce tool sprawl. Substack added podcasts and video in recent years; ConvertKit expanded into commerce and community features. For creators managing newsletters, podcasts, and web content separately, consolidation promises simpler workflows and unified audience data.

Beehiiv's zero-commission revenue structure could appeal to creators already frustrated by platform fees. Gumroad famously reduced its fees after creator backlash, and Beehiiv's flat subscription pricing (rather than revenue sharing) aligns with that sentiment.

What It Means for Newsletter Creators

The practical impact depends on how well Beehiiv's podcast tools integrate with existing creator workflows. Automatic transcripts and unified analytics are table stakes; the real test is whether the platform can match the distribution reach and discoverability that standalone podcast hosts provide.

For creators already on Beehiiv who have considered launching a podcast, the barrier to entry just dropped significantly. No need to set up a separate hosting account, manage RSS feeds manually, or reconcile subscriber data across platforms. That convenience could accelerate podcast launches among Beehiiv's user base, which includes thousands of independent publishers.

The feature also signals Beehiiv's ambition to own more of the creator stack. As we previously covered, the company has been aggressive in shipping features and growing revenue. Adding podcasts keeps Beehiiv competitive as creators increasingly expect platforms to handle multiple content formats without forcing them to stitch together third-party services.

Beehiiv's Podcasts feature is available now. Creators can access it through their Beehiiv dashboard, with distribution and analytics included in existing subscription tiers. The company has not disclosed whether advanced podcast features will be gated behind higher-tier plans.
